OUR SILVER ANNIVERSARY: TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!!!  Impossible to believe that the shop's been here for a full quarter century!!! August ninth of 1998 we opened with a smashing Opening Day Party, really hoping we'd make a success of this little bookshop, but who could tell?  We never could have dreamed -- not in a million years -- that Mystery Pier would achieve such an international reputation... would have been blessed with the continuous, ongoing, widespread publicity... would have the incredibly loyal clientele, so many of whom have become close, treasured friends.... and would have continued to give us the limitless joy with which we have been gifted -- and continue to be gifted -- throughout these nine thousand plus days.  Our thanks to you all is well beyond our power to express, but we certainly hope you know the extent of it.

Our very dear longtime friend, internationally bestselling author Anne Perry passed away yesterday. Hers was a story of true redemption, in which her faith and trust in the Almighty sustained and inspired her throughout her adult life. She was a brilliant, dedicated writer, devoted and grateful to her worldwide fans, and always most generous of spirit. She will be sorely...

CHANDLER, RAYMOND: HIS HOLOGRAPH WILL An unquestionable rarity. Raymond Chandler’s actual two-page document to his lawyer Michael Gilbert, personally typed in blue ink by the author (with holograph corrections and additions) to serve as his will. Written from Palm Springs, California on January 18, 1957, he discusses the intricacies and legalities of such a will, and whether it will be legally...

.....and sincere apologies for what may appear laziness in our not posting for such a long while. In fact, although a degree of sloth may indeed have entered into it, the fact is that, happily, we've been quite busy in the shop and so far it's been a good Holiday business for us. We've been fortunate in procuring some real...

Saturday July 17, 2021
Just a quick update now we've learned that the pandemic has once again increased both geographically and in severity. Shop hours are currently these: Monday through Saturday 11am to 6pm. Sundays 12 noon to 5pm. For safety's sake -- yours and ours -- we can't admit anyone without masks, and we do follow the rule about maintaining safe distance in...

Apologies for being so negligent in updating our website with regularity -- but -- that said, we're rectifying that by, little by little, now turning our attention to adding many wonderful titles to the site. Obviously its time consuming, so we'll be grateful for your patience and understanding as we tax our own patience, maximize our concentration -- and get...

Monday March 29, 2021

We would like to sincerely thank all our customers and clients -- long-term and new -- for their loyalty, understanding and patience during these many trying months of lockdowns, modified hours and all the various ongoing changes in routine mandated by this seemingly endless pandemic.  It's been, and in many ways continues to be, a difficult time for all of...

Tuesday June 2, 2020

At long last, a post! No excuses, at least none that makes sense. Simply that we've been happily busy with in-shop activity (prior of course to the horrendous pandemic) and with shipping. That said, we're back!

At least, for as long as we're allowed to be in light of the current social unrest -- and with these mandated limited open hours...

FIRST OF 2019 (with apologies for the long absence)

Wednesday January 16, 2019

Both of us wish ALL of you -- our regulars, our non-regulars, all the looky-loos -- and EVERYONE who've entered our ever welcoming doors -- a healthy, happy, prosperous and altogether fulfilling and rewarding New Year.

We've been truly blessed (once again) in 2018.  It's been a really terrific year for Mystery Pier.  Wonderful books have come, have gone, and been...

Thursday August 9, 2018

Twenty years ago today -- a Sunday -- August ninth, 1998 -- MPB opened its door for the very first time.  It's been a FABULOUS two decades, in every way infinitely more successful and fulfilling in every way than we could have hoped or dreamed.  Thanks to all the ongoing media coverage and now also to American Airlines for requesting...

Busy, busy, busy here at the shop -- both with in-house sales as well as shipping all over the place --  Emmy gifts to those lucky (and talented) recipients and too, to new customers as well as our regulars.  Predominant among our very latest sales have included First Editions of Churchill --signed as well as unsigned -- (there seems to...

Wednesday August 2, 2017

Once again apologizing for lack of entries on the site, it hasn't stopped us from replenishing our stock and bringing in all nature of extremely collectible First Editions to line the shelves.  Louis has been away, enjoying winter in Australia & New Zealand, so Harvey's been manning the shop alone and, as ever, loving every moment of being in this...

Belated Update May 20, 2017

Saturday May 20, 2017

Once again our only excuse for not updating our blog is two-fold:  brisk, time-consuming, ongoing business (for which Harvey and I remain perpetually grateful) and travel -- this time to Japan and Vietnam -- but now we're back, filled with energy (as well as many dozens of rare and highly collectible First Editions)  and rarin' to go.

Mystery Pier is featured...
