About Us

Called, "One of the Most Important First Edition Bookshops in the United States," and worldwide in its sterling reputation, Mystery Pier is a proud member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers.  The internationally renowned shop features and sells exclusively First Editions, First State copies of collectible literature.  A true favorite for so many of the entertainment industry elite who visit so often and with great regularity, Mystery Pier regularly sells gifts for nominees and winners in all the major Awards shows: Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Grammys -- and the loyal client list is truly notable: from Johnny Depp, Flea, Guillermo del Toro, Bono, Michael Caine and Barry Gibb to  Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan, Tommy Lee Jones and so many others, books from here grace the shelves of Martin Scorsese, Oprah Winfrey, John Malkovich, Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts, Sylvester Stallone, Nicole Kidman, Seth Macfarlane among many, many others.

Entrance to the shop is enchanting. Walking down the famed Sunset Strip, one turns through an unexpected entryway, proceeds down a few stone steps, heads through a slim, magical passageway right out of old Europe, and is met with blooming flowerbeds fronting a charming English cottage reminiscent of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Inside, mellowed by the soft, soothing sounds of gentle classical music, it's as visitor-friendly as it is atmospheric and cozy; three rooms a virtual treasure trove of books -- several thousand -- every single one a true First Edition -- immaculately organized, beautifully displayed.

This is Mystery Pier, the noted bookshop (which Michael Caine says, "is like the most wonderful museum, except you get to buy the exhibits," and Eric Idle says, "This shop is so incredible they ought to charge admission,") so regularly featured in the media -- raved about on the late night talk shows by MPB's loyal regulars; featured on TV all the way from from CBS Sunday Morning through Eye on L.A. and others; in the In Flight magazines of American, Delta and Alaska Airlines; in the Louis Vuitton Guide; in the major national entertainment magazines (from Best of the Best edition of Los Angeles Magazine to the cover story in an issue of Money magazine) and heading the list at Number One in The Ten Best Hidden Gems of L.A.

Owned and operated by the hospitable, knowledgable father-and-son team of Harvey Jason and his son Louis M. Jason, MPB is embraced not only for the warm friendliness and helpful expertise of its proprietors, but for its extraordinary selection of titles, with the strongest emphasis placed upon quality, scarcity and value.
