The Secret Side of Los Angeles: We Present L.A.'s Coolest Hidden Gems

On the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, next door to Book Soup, there's a nondescript passageway with an ugly black awning that reads, “MP First Edition.” That’s all it says. If you’re curious enough to walk down the alley, it leads to a sort of dead end. Make a right down some steps and go down another alley to find a small house and bald man outside in a chair; this is Harvey, and Harvey is the owner of this little hidden house, which happens to be the world’s most spectacular first-edition book store. This is West Hollywood's best hidden gem, a museum of literature, with classic first editions of Capote, Faulkner, Hemingway, and a staggering host of others, ranging from $7-$100,000. On the wall, you’ll find photos of some of Harvey’s most loyal customers, guys like Johnny Depp and Daniel Craig.
