NY: Covici Friede, (1936). First Covici Friede edition of the author's first book, bound from the remaindered McBride sheets of 1929. Steinbeck was never pleased with this work, an historical romance novel centering upon the life of Henry Morgan, infamous but highly colorful pirate of the 1670s. Lovely, close to fine copy, tight and square, gilt bright and sharp, uniform blue top stain, in like dust jacket with but the most minimal use and wear. Item #10113
