First Edition of this highspot of contemporary literature, Lowry's masterful, compelling chronicle of the disintegration of a classic alcoholic. This is the true First Edition, First State in true First State dust jacket with the Advance Critical Acclaim quartet of reviews on the rear panel. The book itself is very close to fine, showing but mild use and a slight spine slant; the dust jacket, certainly better than very good, much closer to near fine, bright, but with some creasing, mild superficial chipping and a couple of closed tears. This major novel was, of course, the basis for John Huston's 1984 film adaptation starring Albert Finney (who received an Academy Award nomination for his performance) and Jacqueline Bisset. This copy bears the bold ownership signature of Jacqueline Bisset, who played Finney's wife, and who has signed her name in blue ink across the front free endpaper.
